Cranial diabetes insipidus is an uncommon condition characterised by an absolute, or (more often) a relative, lack of osmoregulated vasopressin. (The causes are listed in Fig. 5.15.) The majority of patients have measurable plasma vasopressin, but its concentration is inappropriately low for the concomitant plasma osmolality.
